Evaluate With Spoilers for The Misplaced Home by Melissa Larsen
I actually get pleasure from Nordic Noir tales. The Misplaced Home differs slightly from the typical Nordic tropes in that the primary character is American.
Agnes, a California native, looks like a real fish out of water in Iceland. However she has roots there: forty years in the past, her grandmother Marie and Marie’s toddler daughter had been discovered useless.
Nora Carver, a widely known podcaster, is re-visiting the “Frozen Madonna and Baby” case, and Agnes is the one member of the family who agrees to speak to her.
Regardless of a knee harm that has her popping painkillers, Agnes is drawn into the historic case, and likewise into the current disappearance of Ása, a neighborhood scholar.
What I loved in regards to the guide:
- Agnes’s harm was a great way to make her weak with out the standard trope of creating her psychologically unstable (although the painkillers did {that a} bit)
- There was an fascinating push and pull between Agnes, Nora, and the locals, all of whom have sturdy opinions in regards to the case.
- The ending, whereas not stunning, was sturdy.
