Finn and Sophia are literally Alain and Claudine, French Catholic siblings.

Claudine is Alain’s (not lifeless) half-sister. She was the illegitimate daughter of their aristocratic father, who cheated on his spouse.

In any case, the explanation Sophia and Finn wished the swap was in order that Sophia/Claudine may get pregnant. Which she does, by Adam. Apparently IVF was not an choice due to her strict spiritual beliefs. Which completely cracks me up as a result of she will need to have damaged many of the ten commandments in the course of the story. However I digress…

Sophia’s stalker was Meghan, one other lady they tried to get pregnant.
